On the road again

The summer is a busy time for Take Five: Europe.  On 28 June, Serious’ John Cumming and Martel Ollerenshaw were joined by Michele Kuypers (North Sea Jazz Festival) and Airelle Besson and Marcos Baggiani (Take Five: Europe Edition II artists) at Jazzday in Rotterdam where we discussed the programme and the impacts and benefits of bespoke professional development for emerging creative musicians who aspire to develop international careers.

On 9 and 10 July, Martel and Piotr Turkiewicz (Jazztopad) travelled to Lodz to speak to a group of emerging Polish musicians about career development as part of the Summer Jazz Academy Festival organised by Take Five: Europe Edition I participant Maceij Obara on behalf of Wytwornia Foundation.  The music tutors included other Take Five: Europe Edition I artists: Tom Arthurs (trumpet), Ole Morten Vagan (double bass) and Gard Nilssen (drums).

And the band called European Sunrise, comprising the Edition II participants, will perform their collaborative work across Europe in the coming fortnight at North Sea Jazz Festival (12 July), Molde International Jazz Festival (19 July) and Manchester Jazz Festival (29 July).  It’s a great band, we’d encourage you to check it out if you can.
